Coordinating Schedules
Unless your boss is the ultimate head of the company for which you work, the chances are youâll need to coordinate your bossâs schedule with her bossâs schedule. When I worked for George, I always kept a copy of the presidentâs daily and long-term schedule in my bible (see chapter 3). Of course, the presidentâs schedule would change constantly and Georgeâs schedule changed with it. Many of the events, trips, and meetings on the presidentâs schedule involved George, so I put them immediately onto his schedule. But what was more complicated was predicting when George would be needed by the president and called into the Oval Office. The worst situation was having George out of the White House, and the president requesting him in the Oval. Obviously if he was in the White House I could pull him out of a meeting for the president, but if he was across town, unless I could get him on the phone (which was never satisfactory), he failed at his most important dutyâ being at the beck and call of the president.
